DANCE OUTDOOR DAY 2024 - A Day for Dance Educators to Flip the Script!

Dance Outdoor Day is a low pressure opportunity for adult dance educators to flip the script and spend a day much like their students! A full day of dance, and awesome dance educator vendors, a 3 minute walk from the Sechelt Pier and downtown Sechelt's famous Artisan Market and gourmet treats; it's sure to be a day of Sun and Fun! We strongly believe the best educators are up to date, regularly nourishing their own passion, and supported by the community. While Dance Outdoor Day does not aim to be preachy in nature, or teach educators how to instruct, we hope to cultivate a day of dance that will give everyone a chance to get back to why they loved to dance in the first place, and make lasting connections with fellow educators. 

Our Master Educators for our inaugral D.O.D are: 

Danielle Harvey - Danielle was born and raised in beautiful British Columbia. Embracing the beauty of her birth place, she is known for her ethereal movement, brave artistry and breathtaking choreography. She is known for her success on CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada where she placed in the Top Three Girls, an experience she holds very close to her heart and feels shaped her into the artist she is today. Along with film and television, Danielle has worked alongside and toured around Asia, Europe, the US and Canada with MOVE: The Company, Margie Gillis, Marie Couinard, Stacey Tookey, Mia Michaels, Sean Cheesman, Slum Dog Millionaire‘s Longinus Fernandes and 49th Parallel. Danielle is also the creator of Westcoast Choreo Labs for emerging choreographers and the Creative Director of the Impact Dance Academy working within the BC School District. Danielle has spoken as a guest artist on TED X. She is a career-driven dance educator, continuously striving to expand her artistic capabilities as well as enrich the lives of others through dance.

Milaina Chanel - Milaina is a dancer and actress originally from Calgary, Alberta and moved to Vancouver, BC after high school to pursue a career in film and television. She has been dancing since the age of 2 and has trained in many styles including Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz Funk. As well as dance training Milaina is constantly taking acting classes to hone in on her craft and grow in the industry.

Milaina has had opportunities to work on many sets as dancer, actor and Assistant Choreographer from networks such as Disney, Nickelodeon, NBC and CW to name a few. Milaina has been a TV series lead on family channel’s The Next Step as well as working as an actor on other projects for Freeform and Disney.  As well as a dancer in Descendants 3, Monster High 1 & 2, Riverdale and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

Milaina has been fortunate to travel international and perform. She performed on several Greek islands, she has performed for Harlem Globe Trotters, the Briar Cup, Continental Cup, Sharing Dance, WE Day, BMW’s Cabriolet Gala and Family Channel’s Big Ticket Summer Concert.

Along with being a dancer and actor, Milaina also loves sharing her passion for dance and choreographs/teaches throughout BC and travels across Canada teaching and adjudicating a variety of styles to a mix of levels.

Ken Yung - Ken is a fixture in the Vancouver dance scene. Founder and Director of numerous influential groups and events such as: Kill the Lights, The Mainevent, and MOFO Dance, Ken's classes are a sweaty, challenging, GOOD TIME! 

The timeline of the day looks like: 

10:00am - Welcome

10:30 - 11:30 - Dance/Yoga warm up with Exult Team

11:30 - 12:30 - Contemporary with Danielle Harvey 

12:30 - 2:00 - Lunch Break

2:00 - 3:00 - Hip Hop with Ken Yung

3:00 - 4:00 - Jazz with Milaina Chanel

4:00 - 5:00 - Mingling, live performances from local artists, goodbyes!
